Day Two

I got up at 5:15 this morning and did a 30-minute workout, just in case it would turn out to be my only opportunity to work out for the day. I was glad I did because we left San Angelo at 7:15 and didn’t get to my Dad’s house in Bosque until 4:30 Central Time (technically speaking, it was 3:30 in Bosque because we crossed a time zone. Other than for gas, we only stopped once—in Lincoln, New Mexico, where we checked out the historic church, store, and other buildings, and had a picnic of our pasta leftovers from last night, which we reheated in foil packets on the dashboard as we drove.

It’s great to be settled for a couple days. We plan to stay here at the DadWays Inn until Tuesday, when we’ll head up to Santa Fe and do some camping and horseback riding.

Here are some pictures from today:

Heading west from San Angelo.

One of our fine Texas rest stops. It's got clean restrooms, picnic tables, a small information area and free wireless internet.

Sidewalk outside the rest stop. Note the Lone Star emblem!

Wind Power! The mesas out in West Texas are covered with these.

Texas oil wells, since they're de rigeur.

Keeping on to the west!

Getting hillier as we head into New Mexico.

Heading downhill!

Approaching Lincoln, birthplace of Billy the Kid and site of the Lincoln County Wars.

Historic store in Lincoln.

Historic church in Lincoln.

Inside the church.

Donkey! This friendly guy was living in a corral behind the Lincoln Museum.

Leaving Lincoln.

Winding road, heading west toward flatter land.

Ancient lava fields

Turnoff toward the north.

Homestretch!

The canal near my dad's house with the Manzano Mountains in the background.

End of Day Two.

Good night!

Love the donkey photo! Who is the bunny mascot? Does Tidbit know you take the stuffed rabbit along?

Cool! :) I love the stuffed bunny on your dashboard. And what a lovely old church!

I'm enjoying your pics. And the New Mexico landscape fascinates me -- it's so stark and lovely, different to what I'm accustomed to!

...ack, typo: different from what I'm accustomed to.

It's past my bedtime (4 a.m.) - ha! ;)

Loved the photos!! Almost felt like I was there (except it probably felt much shorter than it did for you!)

Are all the rest-stops like that in Texas? Very fancy. We have a few places where you can pull off the road, but more "rustic" than those appear to be!

Lotsa miles!

We drove across Texas once - 800 miles! Where there was nothing, in the West, the fence posts were made of wood. In the hill country, where there were lots of trees, the posts were metal. Saw only one cowboy!

Give the bunny mascot a squeeze for all of us bunny luvers left behind!
